What file format is the preferred
choice for plotting?
Plot Files.
This means that you have sent your drawing to a print/plot
device and specified it to merely print to file instead
of actually physically printing.
This option is very helpful for numerous reasons.
1. There is no need to send along X-refs, special fonts,
scale descriptions with the original drawing because
these are all contained within the plot file.
2. If you use AutoCAD 2000 or a higher release and an
HP 750C Plus device driver, pen configurations can also
be contained in the plot file.
3. Most people are already set up. If you currently
plot in-house, you only need to find the "Print
file" option and select it.
4. Since it is not feasible for HonBlue to have copies
of all the CAD programs that are out there, plot files
allow compatibility. All CAD programs allow you to either
plot or export. Regardless on what file extension it
may give it, if it is a major vendor device driver,
we should be able to print it.

How do I specify my pen configurations?
There are numerous ways of applying a pen configuration
to your files, depending on how versed you or your associates
are in plotting.
If you are sending .DWG (AutoCAD) files, pens widths/screens
have to be applied manually at HonBlue. A simple text
document, or copy of the pcp or ctb file currently being
used by your office will accomplish this. If sending
DWG files please call the CAD department at 808-441-4375.
If you are sending plot (.plt) files, and they were
made by an HP 750C DesignJet plotter (HPGL plot device),
then pen configurations can simply be 'carried over'
and passed directly into our plotting application.
Anything containing raster data usaually cannot be manipulated,
other than reduction and enlargements.

Can you plot in color?
Yes.
Our main ink jet plotter is an HP 800 or HP 5000 which
handles all of our CAD color output. An Encapsulated
PostScript file (.EPS) or a AutoCAD (.DWG) file are
generally the easiest and most efficient formats to
provide.
For more details on color output requirments, contact
our CAD Department at cad@honblue.com, or (808)531-4611
ext.375.

Which device driver and model
should I configure?
We have found that using a HPGL-2 device driver has
proven very successful and most compatible with CAD
programs.
As far as model type, the HP DesignJet 650c or the newer
HP 750C has always been sufficient for general plotting
requirements.
In addition, we support Adobe PDF 4.0 files created
using Acrobat Distiller. For details on how to create
plot or PDF files from AutoCAD, see our plotting help
procedures for creating AutoCAD Plot/PDF files above.

How do I get my files to
HonBlue?
There are four ways to send files to HonBlue.
1. Send files via email to cad@honblue.com - file size
must be under 5MB.
2. Use the online order form provided in the myhonblue.com
section.
3. Use Oce/Buzzsaw ReproDesk software and send via FTP.
For more information on using ReproDesk, contact aecsales@honblue.com.
4. Copy files to a storage media device such as a Zip
disk or CD-Rom and you can either drop it off to our
front office or have our dispatch department pick it
up for you.
All files submitted via email or through our online
ordering system should be zipped (.zip) for transfer.
This reduces the chance for a corrupt file and makes
the file smaller in size. A free version of WinZip 8.0
can be found in our download section.
