The Ka‘iwakīloumoku Hawaiian Cultural Center Makana is a thoughtfully curated collection of postcards presented to dignitaries and guests of the Center. As part of Kamehameha Schools’ commitment to perpetuating Hawaiian culture, language, and traditions, this makana serves as a meaningful keepsake that embodies the essence of Nohona Hawai‘i (Hawaiian living and learning). The sleeve design is adorned with the silhouette of the ‘iwa bird, a symbol of navigation, resilience, and strength, and features linear artwork inspired by the traditional architecture of the Center’s hale. Each postcard showcases the work of a Native Hawaiian artist, offering a visual narrative that celebrates the depth and beauty of Hawaiian culture. Through these artistic expressions, the collection serves as a bridge between past and present, honoring the legacy of kūpuna while inspiring future generations to continue the journey of cultural knowledge and storytelling.

Our client reached out to us initially because they wanted to create some type of box to hold cards and envelopes. Our HB print expert suggested the idea of doing an interlocking box to save on cost because there’s no gluing involved. We showed samples of previous boxes we’ve produced for other clients to give them a visual reference. Once the idea was approved, we created a die-line to fit the size desired for their exact needs and since conception, we’ve printed and produced multiple card and box collections for our client.
