HB Project Spotlight: Ala Moana Center Restroom Graphics Install

We’re all familiar with Ala Moana Center – the world’s largest open-air shopping center, with more than 350 shops and restaurants to explore, including multiple department stores, first-class boutiques and over 160 dining options.

In collaboration again with our good friends at AHL, we were brought in to assist them and Swinerton as part of their renovation project for Ala Moana Center. In particular, they renovated all the restrooms, and we supported them with installing all new graphics and artwork throughout the mall. It started with AHL’s concept drawings and after several meetings, we presented different material solutions that best fit each space.

The end solution was a combination of installing 3M vinyl and laminates for the walls, ½” birch plywood which were routed and clear coated for the wooden wall panels, and we used PVC and acrylic for the dimensional signage.

Restrooms by Center Stage:

Side panels are routed birch plywood. The surfboards were printed on the back of the acrylic to add background. Dimensional logo and text on the face to add to the 3D effect.

Restrooms by Hookipa Terrace:

Working with the contractor who painted the green border, we added the dimensional lettering above. Based on the extreme texture of the wall, it was more cost-effective to paint the green area. We engineered a mounting solution with custom made pegs inserted into wood to cover the hardware for the entrance wall leading into the restrooms.
